Ron Mackey

Councillor

Ron was born and raised in the nearby community of Cull’s Harbour. He graduated from Glovertown Academy in 1984, being the first Class of Grade 12 to Graduate from there. After working at Terra Nova National Park for a couple of years, and a couple of years in Ontario, Ron returned to NL in 1989 and married Carole Ann Arnold from Traytown. They bought a home in Glovertown and have lived in Glovertown ever since. They raised two children Andrew and Angela, who are now both teachers.

After returning to Glovertown , Ron and 2 partners ran  a construction company for a few years, before he took employment in the Building Supply industry with Kean’s Home Hardware in Glovertown. Since then ,he has worked  in management with Granville’s Home Hardware, Gander, and Notre Dame Agencies Gander, and for the past 22 years , as manager of East-Glo Castle Building Supplies in Glovertown.

Ron is most proud of his 4 Grand children Ryder and Noah (Bay Bulls) sons of Andrew and Paige, and Olivia and Alanna (Glovertown) daughters of Angela and John Squire. Over the years Ron has served on the Alexander Bay Lions Club, Alexander Bay Development association, as well as several church commitees and fundraising committees. Ron is a die-hard Habs fan, and unlike Leaf’s fans his age, has witnessed his team win numerous Stanley Cups.
