Sandy Collins

Upon completing high school Glovertown in 1996, Sandy attended Memorial University. He graduated in 2001 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree and a Bachelor of Education Degree in 2003. Sandy would then spent 2 years as an English Instructor in South Korea. While the experience was wonderful he returned to Newfoundland for a unique opportunity to work as Constituency Assistant and later as Executive Assistant to then MHA and Minister Paul Oram. 

Sandy would later himself run in the Provincial by-election for the district of Terra Nova in 2009, being elected as the youngest Member of the House of Assembly at the time. Following his re-election in the 2011 Provincial Election he was appointed the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Health and Community Services, followed by Cabinet appointments as the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation and later as Minister of Child, Youth and Family Services as well as Minister responsible for the Workplace Health, Safety and Compensation Commission and Minister responsible for the Office of Public Engagement. 

In 2016, Sandy accepted a role in the Office of the Official Opposition as Director of Policy and Research. He would serve in that position for 3 years before moving back to his hometown to start a new role as Glovertown’s Town Manager.  After 6 enjoyable years with the town he accepted employment with Nav Canada in 2024 as Manager of Communications, Navigation and Surveillance (CNS) at the Gander FIR. 

Sandy is a first time Town Councilor. He also serves on the Board of Directors for the Venture Credit Union and as a representative on the Glovertown Academy School Council. 

Sandy resides in Glovertown with his wife, Samantha and two daughters Sophie and Anna.
