Council

Cheryl Gordon

Cheryl Gordon (originally from Eastport), her husband, James, and their 3 children have made Glovertown their home for the past 30+. As a retiree and empty-nester, she decided to invest her time in her community and to run for Council in the 2021 municipal elections, and accepting the seat as Deputy Mayor.

Her career as a high school teacher began after graduating from Memorial University of Newfoundland with a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Education.  Her first teaching positions took her to Westport, Salt Pond-Burin, Musgravetown, and Clarenville before accepting a teaching position at Glovertown Regional High School in 1993.  Upon receiving a Master’s Degree in Education, Cheryl accepted a position as Vice Principal of Glovertown Academy.  In 2021, she retired from there as Principal.

During her career, she participated in provincial curriculum development committees, was a provincial and regional conference presenter, and served on The Premier’s Task Force Committee for Education.

Her volunteerism was closely tied to school events, including chairperson of the graduation committee for 15 years; President of Glovertown Aesirs Gymnastics Club for 8 years; and co-organizer of the Stuff Your Stockings annual craft fair.

Since retirement, Cheryl has been involved in several Town Council sub-committees, and the Community Advisory Committee for Glovertown/Eastport/Terra Nova Area. She also enjoys quilting and hiking in her spare time.
